IT has long been relied upon to enhance employee capabilities while maintaining security and boosting productivity. It’s no surprise that business leaders often look to IT managers for strategic initiatives that increase revenue generation.

With the influx of cloud solutions, apps and new devices in the enterprise IT environment, IT’s request log is longer than it has ever been before, placing an unprecedented premium on time and resources.

But what if some of the tasks in the queue could be pushed down to business users?

Basic application integration requests inundate the IT professional’s task list, prohibiting them from focusing on strategic projects that drive business growth. Not to mention, it is much less expensive for the organization if an account executive can handle basic onboarding and mapping tasks as opposed to an IT manager.

By establishing a method and implementing a solution for business users to manage their own integration requests, IT can prioritize efficiencies and ultimately lower operating costs through streamlined processes.

At the same time, data connections waiting to be made in the IT log are not generating any value to the business. When business users are equipped with the necessary tools to securely create these connections themselves, partnerships with vendors, suppliers, customers etc. can begin yielding real value, more quickly.

Productivity and efficiency are increased throughout the entire organization when IT is free to focus on the strategic projects that keep a company competitive in the market, and business users are able to create data connections in real time.

Investing in a solution that securely enables citizen integration not only reduces operational costs by pushing low level IT tasks down, but also generates revenue more quickly by cutting the time traditionally associated with data on boarding and mapping. As the pace at which business is conducted only continues to increase, it’s imperative that businesses adapt—or they will be left behind.
