Rail logistics service providers need a constantly active integration interface with the railroads for the exchange of Car Location Messages (CLM's) as well as rail waybill data (EDI417), and other rail-specific data files such as EDI410, EDI440, and others. There are several 400 series transactions for rail-centric EDI including the EDI404 Shipment/BOL, the EDI410 rail invoice as well as the EDI322 intermodal event report and Car Location Messages (CLM) transactions. CLM transactions are basically an update of the location of rail cars delivered in a single record format depending on the subject. For instance there is a basic format, a destination format, flatcar format, ETA format, etc. These are typically fairly straightforward positional files but may contain a lot of code cross-referencing that can be mapped easily with Adeptia Integration Suite.

Rail logistics often use freight transactions such as EDI204, EDI210, EDI214, and EDI990. Some of the other EDI messages used are the standard EDI810 for fuel and other invoices. Adeptia can integrate these EDI data messages with SAP, Oracle and other ERP systems and it can deliver to and receive EDI data from these enterprise systems via flat file, API, SFTP connection, IDOC/BAPI, XML downloads and even via e-mail. B. Setting up triggers and maps to process inbound and outbound EDI

Setting up triggers and maps to process inbound and outbound EDI User can setup SFTP and other types of file triggers to get data files from your clients. Here’s an example of an secure FTP trigger getting EDI 417 files from a rail carrier’s secure FTP location. You can use single trigger to fetch all the new messages from the ftp directories and traverse through sub-folders based on wild cards.

EDI Mapping is key part of processing EDI data. Here we are showing a map of EDI 404 (Rail Shipment information) being mapped to a backend database. In Adeptia we can map the EDI to any system including ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle etc.

C. Routing of data errors to Human Workflow tasks

Routing of data errors to Human Workflow tasks Adeptia Integration Suite combines process orchestration and workflow in a single platform thus giving your business team access to data that they can view, edit and submit the data back into the process flow after making the corrections. As an example, rail freight data is shown as a workflow task to a business user through a web form for review and correction.

Manager can view the list of pending workflow tasks and the user performance in terms of how long it is taking to fix data issues.

Here’s an example of a workflow designed in the Adeptia Integration Suite. In this example, we are taking CLM data files from a rail carrier and applying validation rules on the source data. If there are exceptions in the data, those exceptions are routed to a human workflow task else the valid data is being sent to the backend rail shipment tracking system.
