Moving products by rail gives a new meaning to time pressure. New customers have to be onboarded in a matter of hours so that their shipments can be loaded and routed. Unfortunately, while some customers use Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to relay information (which streamlines the onboarding and integration process), many don’t have that technical ability. Data therefore is received in multiple formats – all of which must be integrated smoothly to ensure fast onboarding.
A major rail logistics firm had used custom coding for over two decades to accomplish their onboarding and integration. Now, they wanted to modernize their IT infrastructure – and move away from custom coding in the process. With custom coding, they were faced with two major issues. First, there was a lack of standardization and documentation. This was a liability to the organization, because if any of their technical experts left the company, they would have difficulty understanding, managing, or updating the code. Second, they were completely dependent upon a few expert resources to manage all integration and onboarding tasks. They wanted to move to a business-friendly system so that customer account managers and service representatives could handle onboarding, data tracking, and integration, without needing to understand or write code.
The logistics firm explored several different companies in the marketplace and decided to move forward with Adeptia. Michael Behling, Director of Sales, explained, “At Adeptia, we focus on delivering solutions that can be managed by non-technical users. We take onboarding and data integration out of the coding or tech-savvy environment, and put it into the hands of business users.”
The solution that Adeptia provided was the premier Adeptia Integration Suite. Behling noted, “The Adeptia Integration Suite fits smoothly into our clients’ processes and systems. We don’t require our clients to change their infrastructure or their operations. Neither does our system demand extensive training for business users to become proficient. We make it possible for the entire organization to have access to data and work with that data at any time.”
With Adeptia, no custom coding is needed: Adeptia uses drag-and-drop tools that enable business users to quickly create processes, facilitate data integrations, and add new customers – all without waiting for IT teams to create connections with the external organizations. At the same time, IT maintains oversight of business users in a way that is well governed, managed, controlled, and secure.
The Adeptia Integration Suite provides powerful data integration capabilities to convert data from any format into any other format. “Our clients have to work with many different data formats,” said Behling. “They don’t get to dictate how information comes to them. Therefore, they have to be able to work immediately with data of any type.”
Another distinct benefit is that the Adeptia Integration Suite incorporates human workflow capabilities. Previously, data would have to be exported out of the system to be handled manually by IT. Now, business users can manage data, manipulate it, reroute it, and address errors with ease. At no time do tasks or data move outside the system, which means that there is complete visibility into all processes.
Finally, standardization is built into the Adeptia Integration Suite. Behling stated, “Custom code is a like handwriting – everyone has their own specific way of doing it, so when that person is gone, it can be very hard to figure out how to change or fix the code. With a platform such as the Adeptia Integration Suite, everything is standardized. You have complete documentation into how things work, how to make changes, how to correct any issues that may arise, and how to manage process flows.”
With Adeptia’s transparency, flexibility, and scalability, the rail logistics firm is on track toward a bright future
